26 weeks

This photo was taken on Tuesday, my 26 week mark.

This week has been a very busy week at the bakery so to be honest we have been pretty focussed on all things bakery related, getting geared up for the summer hols. Although the next 6 weeks are going to be  quite intense we have some staff (yay!) so should be able to get into more of a routine.

I am hoping to make a good start of sorting out the nursery. I started clearing it last weekend and discovered someone had found the basket of baby blankets a nice place to sleep.

Oh dear... Since then we have been trying to keep the door closed and have invested in a cat net for the baby's cot. Unfortunately I am at the stage where I need a husband to move heavy furniture. I am waiting for the right moment to suggest this little task. I'll keep you updated as to my progress!

Jetting away on a speed boat (sort of)

On Saturday I met Barney at the bakery and once the door was locked we headed straight down to higher town quay and jumped on the Lightening to Bryher. As soon as we were on the boat it felt like our little holiday had begun, just the two of us sitting outside admiring the stunning views that can sometimes become all too easy to take for granted.

We stayed at Hell Bay Hotel, it was my treat to Barney to celebrate a year of the bakery lease. It is hard to believe a year has gone by and it really is Barney who has made it all happen, getting the business up and running to support our growing household. The hotel was lovely, we swam in a heated (!) pool, had some fantastic food and spent Sunday wandering around Bryher not quite knowing where we were and being tourists. I spotted these gorgeous sunflowers on an honesty stall and of course they had to come home with us.

Last week after work we managed to fit in lots of swimming in the sea. The tide was perfect, coming in over the hot sand and being nice and high by 6.30pm. I can honestly say I haven't enjoyed swimming in the sea over here as much as I have over the past couple weeks. This week high tide is later meaning it is harder to be tempted to go in!

We have eaten alfresco most evenings, making the most of our BBQ. Barney has dug up our potatoes and we have been enjoying meat from the local butchers, fresh mackerel and a very special treat of St. Martin's lobster. A big thank you to Keith, our local fisherman, who gave us the lobster as a congratulations for being in the bakery for a year.

The warm weather has also got my sweet peas going and I have just cut a load from the garden. I have been told the more you pick them the more they grow so I am happy to indulge in this method! I love sweet peas, to me they really are a symbol of a traditional English garden in summer.

25 weeks

It is nice to be at that stage where people are confident to ask you when your baby is due rather than just wondering, pregnant or on the chubby side?! On the downside swollen ankles and sore feet are not so nice. Still, a small price to pay for our little one!

Sunshine

Wow, this weather is amazing! It is also amazing how it changes your everyday lifestyle, with warm evenings there are so many more possibilities, so much more you can fit into the day.

The sunny days have made it very busy at the bakery with people wanting filled rolls and pasties to take to the beach- good news for us! But in between the work Barney and I have been making the most of this weather.

Enjoying views like this on the walk home along the back of the island.

Taking the kayak out in the evening. I decided to swim back to shore without a wetsuit- the water was still very very cold!

Picking mangetout from our veg patch, Cantona was very interested in this until she realised the green stuff wasn't for her.

Spending time in the garden, Barney put up the parasol so I could lie in the shade, pregnancy and heat don't always go!

Of course the highlight of this week was the wedding of our lovely friends Jon and Steph. Unfortunately in all the excitement I didn't take any photos. Here are some pictures of the favours and my bridesmaid bouquet that give a good flavour of the bright and colourful day it was. It truly was a fantastic wedding and so lovely to be a part of their special day.

I can't wait for our next island adventures with Mr and Mrs Haggerty! Well, once they get back from their honeymoon in Bali. Jealous, me?!

Finally, bump at 24 weeks...

Lots of doing and a little bit of not doing

I have been enjoying the summer days, admiring stunning foxgloves dotted around the island, eating island grown strawberries and finding a bargain bunch of British peonies in Co-Op.

As well as enjoying the little things there has been plenty going on and lots of being out and about.

We had a lovely week with Duane. He was a very dedicated friend getting up at 5.30am to go to work with Barney to help with the bake (this mainly involved being chief coffee maker) as well as being a great help around the house. It was lovely coming home to the washing up being done and the wet washing having been hung out after I had forgotten to do it before work. Duane helped Barney to move our new sideboard into place, although did look slightly bewildered at my excitement over rearranging photo frames, vases and all the pretty 'stuff' we have accumulated!

The boys enjoyed a Sunday of playing cricket, we spent a day supporting the lovely St. Martin's folk who took part in the Tresco Triathlon and took advantage a a lovely evening by hopping on the supper boat to go off-island for dinner.

Duane and I also braved a not so nice evening to go and support Barney in his gig race. I say we 'braved' the weather but it was really Barney who was brave as he was soaked after rowing in such a choppy sea!

So, as usual after someone has left the house feels very quiet. But today the weather has not been very nice at all so it was with no guilt that I spent an afternoon indoors doing some house work, catching up with some admin and spending an hour reading my Country Living mag (before having a little snooze!). This type of weather calls for some comfort food so this evening I am going to cook toad-in-the-hole, delicious.

Finally, I haven't forgotten my weekly bump picture. (Well I had but I have a helpful app on my phone that tells me weekly how baby is developing).

Week 23

Yes it's getting bigger! I have been feeling some aches and pains, but it is a nice feeling, nice to feel like something is happening and my little baby is getting a little stronger each day.
